Watch: Stop Making Sense 4K restoration trailer & global IMAX screening announced
A new trailer for the 4K restoration of the Talking Heads live concert movie Stop Making Sense by director Jonathan Demme has debuted ahead of the new version of the movie’s screening at as part of the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11th, to coincide with a Global IMAX event that night.
Talking Heads members David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz, and Jerry Harrison will appear together publicly for the first time since their 2002 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction at an upcoming 40th anniversary celebration of the band’s concert film Stop Making Sense, on Sept. 22 via distributor A24.
The group will also partake in a Q&A moderated by filmmaker Spike Lee (who worked with Byrne on American Utopia), after the restored Stop Making Sense premieres, which will be streamed to to IMAX theatres globally.
The Toronto premiere, along with the Q&A between all four original members, in-person, talking with filmmaker Spike Lee (who worked with David Byrne on American Utopia), is also being broadcast on the night.
The film then gets a one-week exclusive run at IMAX cinemas starting September 22nd , before it goes on wider release.
Stop Making Sense is a highly acclaimed concert film featuring the renowned American rock band, Talking Heads. Originally released in 1984, the film captured the band’s energetic live performances during their 1983 tour. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest concert films of all time.
The live performance was shot over the course of three nights at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater in December of 1983 and features Talking Heads’ most memorable songs.
