In which I invent a new word, Aoife and I talk about Azealia Banks (that’s her above drawn by 400 Facts), why Grimes reminds me of Opus III, why Chairlift are great, Twitter fights with Zomby, Icelandic intentions and pronunciations, a load of brilliant Irish electronica and some Shangaan electro.
The latest Nialler9 podcast is a bit different down to the fact that there are two of us. I joined Aoife for a change for the links between tunes. Besides that it’s business as usual with some enduring tunes from recent albums with diversions into folk, dance, electronic and Trinidad calypso via Van Dyke Parks and The Esso Trindad Steel Band.
Niamh Hegarty presents the 10th edition of the Richter Collective podcast which includes an interview with Benni of Logikparty, new songs from Squarehead’s new album Yeah Nothing (streaming here in full), tunes from Bats, Not Squares, ASIWYFA, Adebisi Shank and a MAgic Pockets remix of Hands Up Who Wants To Die.
Fresh new tunes from Florida’s Millionyoung, Canadians Young Galaxy and Jacques Greene, my favourite Japanese artist Shugo Tokumaru, DFA’s Holy Ghost!, France’s Yelle, Minneapolis’ Generationals, Greece’s Keep Shelly In Athens (whose song ‘Hauntin’ Me’ inspired the awesome Left Overs artwork above), California wonky pop from Therapies Son and Dirty Beaches with a few more thrown in for good measure. Right Click Radio 2XM’s Aoife Mc presents. Tracklisting and links after the jump…
A bit of a different podcast for you this month (and at nearly 2 hours, a long one) as myself and Aoife sat down and talked about the best things that happened in 2010. We cover Irish acts and labels we loved this year, gigs of 2010, albums and songs of 2010, tv and video moments of the year and my own personal discovery of the year – Shangaan Electro. Full rundown below. Artwork by Stephen Graham.
Finally a new podcast to wrap your ears around. Compiling the podcast is one of my favourite things to do and this month we have an extra dimension with some original artwork from Stephen Graham aka Left Overs from Belfast who provided us with the above illustration (click to enlarge). He said it was inspired by a metal-loving taxi driver he had recently. You can also check his blog. Aoife Mc is your podcast host as always – check out her food blog – I Can Has Cook? and her radio show Right Click Radio on RTE 2XM. The latest episode can be heard here.
On with the program, this month we’ve got great tracks from new and recent release in a straight up MP3 format or Soundcloud. All Nialler9-approved. Enjoy! Tracklisting below.
Eddie from No Clarity posted up the site’s inaugural weekly podcast today. That’s another fine podcast to add to your subscriptions so.
The show features some great Irish music from Cutaways, The Things, Large Mound, Channel One, Super Extra Bonus Party and Cashier No9. Eddie also chats to Hugh from Large Mound about the band’s recent release of their third album, My Whole Life Is Have To. Loving that Cashier No9 tune!
That’s right as of today, nialler9 is number 10 in Irish iTunes music podcasts making our podcast bigger than Bono, U2, MTV News (but not Brice Springsteen, Today FM, Westlife or Bob Dylan). It’s at number 109 6 today. Thanks to all who downloaded. I know this means absolutely fuck-all in reality but it makes me feel nice and fuzzy on the inside all the same!
