THURSDAY DECEMBER 7TH

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble @ Crane Lane Theatre (8pm, €20)
7-piece family brass band and one-time Gorillaz studio collaborators make a return to the ballroom of the Crane Lane.

Mersk @ The Roundy (8.30pm, €5)
Improvised drone from the current assemblage of the long-running Corkonian sound-art collective, in stand-alone performance and in soundtrack to member Helio Leon’s film The Purple Room.

Pierce Turner @ Coughlan’s (9pm, €20)
One-time folk/post-punk man continues to tour the world solo. Recommended highly by Philip Glass, among others.

FRIDAY DECEMBER 8TH

Quarter Block Party Fundraiser @ The Roundy (8pm, €8)
Hands in the pockets, lads. Alien She supplying live tunes, and the following on decks, so far: Lisa O’Flynn, Ellen King, Gilbert Steele, Albert Twomey, Darren Keane, Aisling O’Riordan, Vicky Langan, Senita Appiakorang, Reich Joyce, Caoilian Sherlock.

New Secret Weapon @ The Poor Relation (8pm, €10)
Psychedelic-laced, semi-improv alt-rock outfit set their sights on The Poor Relation on Parnell Place. Support from alt-metal squids The Magnapinna.

The Eskies @ Coughlan’s (9pm, €10)
Purveyors of music, from waltz to Italian tarantella, from funeral march-esque lament to weep along klezmer knees up, from chain gang holler to rag time finger-snap.

The Moonstomp @ The Sextant (9.30pm, free)
Put your braces together and your boots on your feet for the resident Moonstompers and another set of fine ska, reggae and two-tone.

SATURDAY DECEMBER 9TH

Rusangano Family @ Cyprus Avenue (8pm, €15)
GodKnows, Murli and mynameisjOhn return to Cork after nearly destroying the entire city on previous excursions. Support from Mango and Mathman.

Fish Go Deep @ Amp Venue (9pm, €13)
Greg and Shane celebrate three decades of setting the standard for house in Cork city in a special showcase event. Early arrival is advised.

A Cow in the Water @ Crane Lane Theatre (9pm, €10)
The return of Blarney “mank-rock” specialists, twenty years after the passing of former vocalist Aidan O’Connell. All profits to Pieta House in aid of suicide awareness and support. Remastered album ‘Hitchhikers May Be Escaping Inmates’ now available via PLUGD.

Jheri Tracks @ The Roundy (9pm, €5 before 10, €8 after)
The Jheri Tracks crew hit the Roundy for a dance. Sage, Dean and DC will be boarding the Aircoach with the necessary supplies for some late night action with local John H in tow.

Dr. Mindflip @ The Brú (9pm, free)
‘Punk Freud’, as the lads have been dubbed by assorted gig-goers, return to the Brú after over a year’s absence for a load of avant-pop ruckus.

Audible Joes @ Fred Zeppelin’s (9pm, €5)
Corkonian pop-punks return to the red room upstairs on Parliament Street. Also appearing: Kildare lads Immaculate Deception and Leeside Ramones tribute The Corkones.

Block @ Advent (10pm, tbc)
Mystery gig at Generic People’s pop-up club for the Corkonian house collective. How much in? Who knows. Who else is on the decks? Dunno, actually. Check the link for info as it emerges.

Josh Butler @ Cyprus Avenue (11pm, €16)
Hailing from the North of England, house specialist Josh Butler brings a world of experience to the upstairs venue on Caroline St.

SUNDAY DECEMBER 10TH

BeatLab Social @ The Roundy (4pm, free)
The Cuttin’ Heads Collective unveil the first in a new series of events: a social where producers of all skill ranges make different sounds from a common sample pack. Moochers, socialisers and the curious are also invited.

Fish Go Deep Birthday Afterparty @ Advent (4pm, tbc)
Mystery follow-up event in Generic People’s pop-up nightclub, behind Rachel’s on Washington St. Keep an eye on the link for more information.

Declan O’Rourke @ Live at St Luke’s (7.30pm, €26.50)
Guitarist/vocalist leads an expansive eight-piece band through an exploration of the The Great Famine through story and song.
