As recommended by podcast cohost Andrea Cleary, Billie Marten’s new album Flora Fauna is out tomorrow and this track addresses the vulnerability of women alone at night.
“This video is absolutely needed to match the message of the song, which was initially something I shied away from talking about. As creative discussions began between Joe Wheatley (Director) and I it became incredibly important to convey the absurdity of simply not being able to go out anywhere at night as a woman particularly, without that hideous stone-cold fear of what might happen to you. Hence every woman in the video needing the comfort and protection of full army gear to carry out the simplest of everyday tasks (like going for a run or walking home from work) and every man is without it. My trusty safety tank gets me to the shop for a pint of milk. It’s a deliberately absurd illustration of a disturbingly real problem that needed to be addressed.”

Burial’s moving and cinematic club tracks perhaps hits its most recent apex on this track. Ravey, dystopian, discombobulating and euphoric. The other track ‘Space Cadet’ is great too.

Wickid Tongues
A new one from the highly-anticipated Town’s Dead album, out June 25th. Such confidence and versatility in that voice with every song released.
‘Wickid Tongues’ is about “falling too deeply in love with someone a little too fast, and how that can play with your head and make you paranoid. It can be quite hard to build trust early on in any relationship, if you’re not careful I feel it’s easy for your thoughts to run away with you and you become suspicious when there might not be anything wrong.”

Copenhagen singer-songwriter and producer Erika De Casier is equally in thrall to ’90s R&B as it is UK Garage. The song is from Sensational, out on 4AD omorrow.
