Music you should have heard - Broadcast

Broadcast

I want to take the opportunity to mention some music over the next week or so which was released either before I started the blog or music I never got around to posting about in the first place. These are all highly recommended. First up, Broadcast.

Released in September of last year, Broadcast really came into their own with the release of ‘Tender Buttons’.The sound on this album is pared down with more cohesion and focus than previous releases making it Broadcast’s most indie pop (and therefore accessible) album. Nearly every song has an underlying synth line which throbs around the track while guitar and drum machine rhythms form the central arrangement. Trish Keenan’s spectral vocals has strands of Nico and sounds like it came from that era. Overall a tremendous collection of synth driven pop.

Broadcast – Black Cat

Broadcast – America’s Boy

  1. thanks for the tip — this is good!

Hey, another band with a very similar sound to The Knife, while I’m here, is Zeigeist. I’ve only heard one track, “Tar Heart”, but I like it; worth a listen.

  5. I dunno — I saw one comment saying that there are a few Swedish bands like this — maybe it’s just a previously-unheard scene gradually making its way out of the country…
