Band of Blogs: Light Asylum, Electric Guest, Wild Belle & Young Man

Light Asylum
Every Friday, I pick out four great new music picks from the best of the music blogosphere as part of my Day & Night internet section. Follow Day & Night on Twitter or Facebook. It’s out today in print with every copy of the Irish Independent.

Light Asylum

Coming across like Devo in full ‘Whip It’ mode, the agitated wonky pop of ‘IPC’ from this Brooklyn via Berlin band’s (too much cool right?) Mexican Summer label debut is odd and compelling,

Electric Guest

It’s hard not to hear ‘This Head I Hold’ as a song destined for the vocal chords of Janelle Monae but Asa Taccone makes this soul track his own with his high-pitched breathy tones. This LA band’s debut album is produced by Danger Mouse so expect these guys to outstay their welcome.

Wild Belle

Wild Belle consists of Elliott Bergman of Chicago Afrobeat band Nomo and his sis Natalie. Their dubby electro-reggae drew enough interested parties at SXSW this year to create a buzz post-festival.

Young Man

The soft tropical indie-rock scene continues unabated with Chicago-based Colin Caulfield’s band project Young Man who will release the second of a trilogy of LPs, confusingly titled Vol 1 in May. Peep the languid and gentle sound of Fates for a starter taste.
