Iglooghost is a young Irish-born UK-based producer Seamus Malliagh who can’t be more than  20 years old but who already has an EP on Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label.

News has reached that his  heavy-beatdown atmospherics, dayglow rap beats and squiggly electronica will get a full-length release Neō Wax Bloom on the label on September 29th.

After hearing new track ‘Bug Thief’, it makes sense that this project would find a home on the LA Beat scene’s influential label. It’s fizzy and hyperactive, choatic and controlled, it’s a bit like a mild panic attack it darts in so many directions. Whether that is a good thing or bad, depends on your tolerance for such short-attention-span music making. It’s certainly batshit whatever side of the fence you fall on.

it’s got an equally bizarre backstory to boot about a “gelatinous worm-shaped creature called Xiangjiao” and “two giant eyeballs crashing into the mysterious world of Mamu.”

“When a pair of giant eyeballs crash into the strange, misty world of Mamu, the mysterious forces that govern nature itself are disrupted. A life cycle of transforming creatures is thrown off balance, and the odd looking inhabitants of Mamu are forced to adapt to this calamity. These inhabitants include Yomi – a multicoloured pom-pom monk; Lummo – a wise blind witch training a band of melon coloured babies; and Uso – a sneaky bug thief hidden in a green cloak – as well as many others. As their respective stories begin to interlock, the mysteries surrounding the giant eyeballs are slowly revealed.”

Iglooghost is an 18 year-old Irish-born UK-based producer and beatmaker who I’ve featured here before alongside Bolts and Monto. His work tends to fall between heavy-beatdown atmospherics, rap beats and squiggly electronica. He recently released a collab with Mr Yote that came with a balloon (Here’s Mary Anne Hobbs with hers).

For his next release, Iglooghost has a 4-track EP coming out on Flying Lotus’ label Brainfeeder called Chinese Nü Yr on October 30th.

“The EP is a story about a gelatinous worm-shaped creature who wears a witch hat called xiāngjiāo. He/she is really sad because his/her existence consists of infinitely being blasted through endless wormholes into different worlds that don’t make any sense – full of floating fruit and pink mist. He/she has a voice played by my little sister but sometimes my dad. He/she is perennially sad and terrified because it doesn’t make any sense why he/she was randomly born into this existence, but he/she is also shit scared because being shot at light speed through wormholes is probably f**king terrifying.”

Hear a track on the EP – ‘Gold Coat’ featuring Tokyo’s Cuushe. It’s discombobulatingly bonkers.

For the day that’s in it, 4/20, the aptly named Fly High Society have put together an EP called Fly Thai Green, featuring four blunted and toking new tracks from Bolts, MontoIglooghost & Tre’bore. Mary Jane is their muse and appropriately, as well as being released on cassette with a sticker pack and Bandcamp, UK purchases come with a complementary lighter.

  1. Bolts – Beginning
  2. Monto – Stay In
  3. Tre’bore – Hibiscus Shuffle
  4. Iglooghost – Korokoro
