Caribou to play Iveagh Gardens show next summer; hear stirring new soulful track ‘Home’
Update: This gig is now happening in June 2022.
It’s been a long time coming but Caribou are really well and truly back with a new song and a rake of live dates for 2020.
‘Home’ is a new song debuted on Anne Mac’s BBC Radio One show tonight and it’s a slower soulful track compared to recent music from Dan Snaith’s Daphni project, but it doesn’t feel a million miles from the established psychedelic electronics associated with Caribou with stirring strings and a sample of the 1971 song ‘Home’ by Gloria Barnes, interwoven among Snaith’s vocals. Most notable perhaps is the reintroduction of more softer organic instruments a relative return to his earlier work before the breakthrough 2014 album Our Love.
As part of the return, Caribou will play their first Irish show in Iveagh Gardens, Dublin on Saturday July 11th next year with long-time promoters U:Mack and Aiken. It’s their first since last year’s only Irish show in Galway. 1 £/$/EUR from every ticket goes to climate non-profit in partnership with Plus 1.
Tickets on sale Friday (price TBA) and there’s a Spotify pre-sale starting tomorrow.
Speaking of the track Snaith says:
“I’m always listening to lots of music and sometimes a loop just jumps out at me – it’s too perfect. That’s how it was with Gloria Barnes’ ‘Home’ – I kept returning to it, meaning to do something with it but not knowing what. Sometimes making music feels like a process I’m in charge of … but there other times, when things just present themselves and my job is to follow their lead. It wasn’t until the circumstances of someone close to me mirrored the refrain of the original song that the track all came together.”
When I’ve played it to friends, several of them have said that they feel like it’s speaking to their circumstances, about people close to them. We’ve all had moments when something changes suddenly and catalyses a change in your whole life – when you need to go back to something familiar, pick up the pieces and start again.”
