CMAT releases fourth single from forthcoming album – ‘Say Something’

Avatar

After adding a third date to her Dublin shows yesterday, CMAT followed it up with the debut of a new song and video, debuted as a Hottest Record In The World on Clara Amfo’s BBC Radio 1 show last night.

‘Stay For Something’ follows on from ‘Where Are Your Kids Tonight?’, ‘Have Fun!’ and ‘Whatever’s Inconvenient’ before the “abstract break-up” album Crazymad, For Me drops on October 13th.

“It’s basically just about questioning why I stayed / suffered in a bad relationship for as long as i did. trying to desperately find some kind of meaning in the mess and then being embarrassed when I remember the good parts. It’s not very lyrical or poetic, it’s just a lot of emotion and energy – this song, to me, sounds like going for a run at 1am with your headphones on full blast, screaming through the streets in order to get away from your problems. I hope that at least one person does that when they hear it.”

CMAT on Stay For Something.

It’s a slightly shinier pop sound for CMAT but not a million miles from her trademark country pop. It’s produced by Matias Téllez and explores a relationship in its aftermath.

Watch the video by James Slater, with CMAT in neon medieval style dress.

I told you that my band started popping off /
You told me that you played guitar /
I knew that you’d lied at the time you said it /
But you could play my heart /
Took a couple weeks you were shredding /
Playin’ like a rock n roll star /
Holy god damn you were so annoying /
But you had my heart
