The handsomest biy in Cork music brings himself and his band out under the hammers as his world tour continues. Support from Ballydehob native Muireann Levis.
GOOD Music @ Cyprus Avenue (11pm, €5)
Stevie G brings Ian Ring in on his shenanigans at the decks at Cyprus Avenue. Grime, hip-hop, electronica, and other such business.
FRIDAY AUGUST 4TH:
Indiependence Festival @ Deer Park, Mitchelstown (all day, SOLD OUT)
Today’s picks: Frank Turner (11pm) and Super Silly (6.30pm) are among those treading the boards at the IMRO Big Top Stage.
Spekulativ Fiktion & Transmission Club @ The Roundy (9pm, €5)
A big double-bill, including hip-hop doomsayer Spekulativ Fiktion and Cork folk/alternative outfit Transmission Club. Presented by Cork promotion/booking house Merakindie.
Ruby’s @ The Hanover (11pm, free)
Original record slinger DJ Jules takes to the decks for the Friday night comeback of the Cork’s legendary LGBT* club night.
Techno Pride @ Cyprus Avenue (11pm, €6)
Joel Sutcliffe (Process Manchester) and Stephen O’Shea headline a Pride edition of Cyprus Avenue’s Techno Fridays.
SATURDAY AUGUST 5TH:
Cork Pride Village @ Grand Parade (all day from 12, free)
Amid the festival atmosphere of Cork Pride, “an open invitation to Cork’s artistic and performance art community to exhibit or perform their work on the day.”
Indiependence Festival @ Deer Park, Mitchelstown (all day, SOLD OUT)
Today’s picks: Overhead, the Albatross and Talos make for a frankly killer double-bill from 8.45pm at the IMRO Big Top, while Irish music writer Tony Clayton-Lea begins his two-day stint opening proceedings at the Beer Tent with his Culture Vultures discussion panels at 3.15pm.
Overblown.co.uk 3rd Birthday @ An Spailpín Fánach (8pm, €10)
Belfast jazz/hardcore hydra Robocobra Quartet take to stage alongside Cork metallers The Magnapinna and Limerick noiseniks Eraser TV to help celebrate alt-rock blog Overblown’s 3rd anniversary.
Queers & Peers @ The Roundy (9pm, free)
First in a series of art, music and film events from Cork’s LGBT community, hosted by spoken-word performer Breda Larkin. On the billing: Lady Grew, Martyna Lawton and more.
Ruby’s @ The Hanover (11pm, free)
In the second night of the Ruby’s comeback, DJ Dermo, the original resident of Cork LGBT* club Instinct takes over proceedings on Saturday night.
SUNDAY AUGUST 6TH:
Cork Pride After Party @ Grand Parade (3pm-6pm, free)
Stalls, live bands and DJs, plus a whole lot more, spread out over the Grand Parade area to finish Pride, including a family-friendly picnic area in the Peace Park alongside.
Indiependence Festival @ Deer Park, Mitchelstown (all day, SOLD OUT)
Today’s picks: Manic Street Preachers take to the Main Stage at 10.45pm to close the show; Le Boom bring their indie-house rabble to the Big Top at 10pm; veteran Cork alt-rockers Hope is Noise return to Indie for the first time in a decade at the Big Top at 3pm; power-pop lads Jonny Rep give it loads at the Beer Tent at 5.15pm.
Sim Simma All-Dayer @ Connolly’s of Leap (4pm, €12)
Toby Kaar and Bon Voyage join the resident DJs of the travelling Sim Simma social club, with a broad selection of dancing music all day long and dancing/movement workshops to boot.
Cook Out @ The Vicarstown (4pm, free)
Gilbert Steele and Welfare join the Cook Out residents in the back of the Vicarstown for the day that’s in it. Backyard beats with grub and suds also available on-site.
