  1. Last weekend I learned that British MPs say ‘rhubarb’ over and over if they disagree with a point being made in Parliament, it’s like the anti-‘hear hear’.

    So here’s my prediction.

PRE-LAUNCH: Both fanciful and realistic educated guesses fly about.

    LAUNCH: names announced.

POST LAUNCH ONLINE: ‘rhubarb rhubarb rhubarb’ + ‘better last year’ + ‘EP is dead’

SEPTEMBER: People go and have a ball

    And repeat for 2010.

  2. Cheers.

Apart from the bands on the radio ad (MGMT, Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, Basement Jaxx, Madness, Flaming Lips….apparently) I’m hoping for Brian Wilson, Dan Deacon, Beirut, Animal Collective, Final Fantasy and Doves.

    Aren’t Friendly Fires playing Oxegen?

  3. FF are yes so they shouldn’t be there. Not on the official list either. No Faith No more either. We could play a game where I can tell you what’s NOT on the list!

Lenny – None of the above hopes!

  4. Clearly, what ya need here is Fever Ray, John Frusciante, The Field, Aphex Twin + Tim Hecker, Tim Exile, Missy Elliott, Plaid, Mogwai, Pantha du Prince, Deerhunter, Dan Deacon Ensemble and sure Radiohead and Portishead, why not.

Easy peasy. I expect it to be ready in one week, Electric Picnic!

  5. lineup is ok… only two of much interest to me.. orbital and chris cunnigham.
no mention that the ticket price is very hefty. might go to sonar instead. will at least have some change in my pocket and get to elope from this island for a few days. yes i am complaining… what’s wrong with that? it is a recession we are in afterall. the ticket price for the picnic has steadily rose over the years and with that it has sold out year after year. this is a great thing, but it’s popularity has allowed the organisers to increase the price, supply and demand is the term. ripoff is closer to the reality. in this country we have rolled over far to often to be screwed without noticing. yes, in effect we were raped while we slept. but few complain.

free the music. support the independent festivals this summer and better still… have your own parties. it’s a sad state when you have to pay to go camping with your mates.

    nano

  6. All I see is hype.. Chris Cunningham would be great but 240 lids for 55 mins is all I’d be paying for..would be much better to see him in Tripod or Olympia or somewhere like that..as for the rest, there is a lot of good acts but they have either played here many times or will likely play here soon

Throw in Grizzly Bear, Fever Ray, TV on the Radio and Animal Collective or any a few more artists that are at the top of their game in 2009 and you might see a bit of value.

All credit to going on the piss for weekend camping and catching a couple of gigs but if you and ten of yer mates put 240 blips each into a slush fund and headed up to Ticknock ye could have some banter!

  7. Have to say id be interested in seeing alot of those bands. Especially the ones i dont really know about… Hopin for some nice surprises. Need a ticket next!

  8. Electric Picnic welcomes a major coup in a rare audiovisual performance by producer CHRIS CUNNINGHAM whose videos for everyone from The Aphex Twin to Madonna need no introduction. This is one of a handful of festivals Chris Cunningham will play across the globe this summer. Chris Cunningham Live is a 55 minute performance, combining original and remixed music and film. It features remixed, unreleased and brand new videos and music, dynamically edited together into a new live piece spread over 3 screens

  9. I must say I agree with a lot of what Nano has to say. There has to be an end to the ripoff culture in Ireland. I understand putting on a festival like this has to cost a lot of money but how can similar or better lineups in Spain for example cost something like 90 euro for the early bird tickets and a whopping 120 for the ‘full’ price tickets. Regardless, like everything else the only way to get prices reduced is to vote with your feet. I’m not sure how it works but I’ve heard that MCD and Aiken ‘tender’ for gigs and the highest bid gets it… If that is the case then those bids will have to start coming down and the savings passed on to the customer.

  10. would love to go, but 240 is too much… i already have a ticket for lowlands so will have to settle with just that… come on ep, get the bands we want or make it a cheap weekend.
