Josh Tillman also streamed a listening party in full last night through Bandcamp.

Mahashmashana will be released Friday 22nd November in the UK & Europe via Bella Union and Sub Pop for the rest world. The latest Father John Misty album is produced by Tillman and Drew Erickson; and comes after the collected compilation Greatish Hits, and the single ‘I Guess Time Makes Fools Of Us All’.

Good timing too, as we are about to host a listening party for his album I Love You, Honeybear next week in The Big Romance.

Listen to our podcast about Father John Misty from two weeks ago.

Mahāśmaśāna (महामशान) – great cremation ground, all things put going thither.

Mahashmashana clocks in at 50 minutes over 8 songs and features that song, along with new ones ‘She Cleans Up’, ‘Screamland’, and “Josh Tillman and The Accidental Dose.” The latter two were mixed by BJ Burton.

‘She Cleans Up’ and ‘Screamland’ were released in advance too in a single Soundcloud link. ‘Screamland’, features Alan Sparhawk from Low on guitar and is markedly different to his recent work dynamically.

Commenting on the video Estefania Kröl says: “The video is a visual journey through the depths of ‘Screamland,’ capturing the essence of both the music and the artists. Father John Misty blends seamlessly into the scene, becoming a part of the city, a living echo of ‘Screamland.’

Father John Misty’s previous album was the universally acclaimed Chloë and The Next 20th Century which entered the UK album chart at Number 2 back in April 2022. “Stunningly melodic” said The Guardian, making it their Album of the Week, while Uncut hailed it as “another multi-faceted triumph” in an 8/10 lead review. Father John Misty went on to play a sold-out show at Hammersmith Apollo in early 2023 before returning just a couple of months later to perform the songs of Scott Walker at the Barbican accompanied by Jules Buckley and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
