One of the films on my must-watch list this year is Berberian Sound Studio, which had a limited run a few months ago. The clever horror film plot is centred around the sound recordist working on a horror film called The Equestrian Vortex so much of the frights are based around playing with the conventions of horror movie soundtracks. What I didn’t know is that before Trish Keenan sadly passed away, Broadcast were working on the soundtrack to the film.
Broadcast have always had a dissonant nervy edge to their music that would have lent to the movie genre. Their soundtrack to the film will be released on Warp on January 4th 2013 on digital, CD and vinyl in Ireland (7th UK / 8th US) with 39 tracks in total. Here’s the opening sequence and first song from the soundtrack.
