Happyalone ‘need more than drugs’ on new single (Premiere)

Kelly Doherty

Cork alt-electronic crew Happyalone are back with their first single since getting a tasty little feature on British metallers Bring Me The Horizon’s most recent album. We’re premiering new cut ‘i need more than drugs (just to get me through the night)’ below.

The hotly-tipped act refine their diverse sound on ‘i need more than drugs’. Two parts trap, one part electronic and all parts moody, it’s an understated track that commits to establishing a dark mood with minimal production and careful restraint. With a subtly infectious refrain and diligently polished beat, ‘i need more than drugs’ continues Happyalone’s streak of outsider tunes that have definite popular appeal.

Lyrically focused on the self-destructive elements of depression, there’s a sinister undertone throughout. “We’re trying to shed light on how polarizing life can be” says Happyalone. “How the “best” thing in your life can be happening to you whilst you’re on the verge of a nervous breakdown”.
