Index club is moving venue to The Academy
The popular dance brand has moved from the Southside back to the Northside.
The Irish nightlife pressure group recently shared their latest count for the country’s nightclubs. The pre-pandemic figure in 2019 was 110. In 2025, it is now 83 , down from 90 last year.
23 of those clubs are in Dublin, and in the last two years we’ve seen the likes of Ukiyo, Tramline, Dashi end in closure due to rising costs. There’s a lot of chopping and changing going on.
The dance brand Index started off on the quays in the old Voodoo Lounge building before moving to Opium Rooms on Wexford Street in 2023. Recent months have seen them dealing with burst pipes and cancelling paid tickets due to capacity issues. It is to move again next month.
Yesterday, Index announced its return to the Northside where it will take over the late night weekend events at The Academy on Middle Abbey Street.
The Academy’s in-house clubs were previously run by Belfast promoters Shine and included the Circus night.
Index kicks off on Middle Abbey Street, right beside Wigwam making the street a clubbing hub on Valentine’s Day, February 14th.
Here’s Index’s announcement:
Dublin – it’s time for change. Index moves back to the Northside this month as we go BIGGER. New surroundings. New location. Fresh production. Same community. World class names. Business as usual. It’s time to take things to the next level.
We’ll see you on Middle Abbey Street from Valentine’s Day, February 14th as we kick off with a very special opening show.
