Introducing: TOPS – Montreal melodic soft rock
The two songs I’ve heard from Montreal’s TOPS have a AM frequency soft-rock and bright vintage dynamics quality to them. It sounds like an amateur (but well-executed) indie record beamed from another era where tape and borrowed studio time ruled the world. That’s a big positive for me – what these songs evoke but then again, part of that may be because they are unmastered…
The band consists of Jane Penny, David Carriere, Thomas Gillies and Riley Fleck, three of which were formerly Silly Kissers (great name) and so far releases have come through through Arbutus Records home to Grimes and Blue Hawaii, as well as Bandcamp.
