Marie Davidson is set to make her solo Dublin live debut playing Whelan’s on Tuesday September 1st with support from Autumns.
The Montreal artist has carved out a singular space in electronic music, blending techno, spoken word and pop across albums that treat the dancefloor as a place for genuine confrontation as much as escape.
Her sixth album, City of Clowns, came out last year on Deewee, made with Belgian duo Soulwax and longtime collaborator Pierre Guerineau, and was one of my favourites of 2025.
City of Clowns is imprinted with a palpable sonic and lyrical ire from the artist aimed at capitalist structures, societal frustration, fake bullshitters, immoral politicians – delivered with a matter-of-fact spoken word and half-sung wit, repeating robotically and sometimes laughing maniacally. City of Clowns is searing in its humanity – body music for the post-digital age.
Support comes from Autumns, the solo project of Derry producer Christian Donaghey, whose industrial-edged take on techno and EBM has made him a fixture of Karl O’Connor’s Downwards label since 2014. He is absolutely class live.
