New albums out today: Jape, Christine and the Queens, Gold Panda, Bruce Springsteen, David Keenan, Run The Jewels & more
Here’s a rundown of new releases on DSPs and physical releases in record shops this week.
Jape – 9K Hi Vol.1
Richie Egan releases an album of instrumental electronic music for graveyards and walks, primarily made with the Casio FZ1 sampler. Richie is our guest on this week’s podcast.
Christine and the Queens – Redcar les adorables étoiles
Héloïse Letissier (he / him) has released a new album that is being called an avant-pop opera.
Gold Panda – The Work
New album from UK electronic artist Derwin Dicker on City Slang.”‘The work’ refers to his own struggle with mental health and how he’s dealt with this via therapy, sobriety & focusing on self-care saying fatherhood was the biggest catalyst for change.” ‘The Corner’.
Bruce Springsteen – Only the Strong Survive
Bruce Springsteen’s soul covers album, A collection of 15 soul covers from Motown, Gamble and Huff, Stax and many more, making up The Boss’ 21st album.
SAULT – Five albums
All five albums – Aiir, Today & Tomorrow, Earth, 11 and UNTITLED (God) are now on streaming. Bandcamp.
Plaid – Feorm Falorx
The English electronic duo are 30 years releasing on Warp Records. This eleventh studio album finds “our duo, Ed Handley and Andy Turner, recreating a recent performance at the Feorm Festival, an intergalactic festival held on the planet Falorx. In order to survive the Falorxian atmosphere they were converted into light so the traditional recording devices they’d taken on ‘The Campbell’ were not functional. Fortunately, having consulted Earth’s Space Agency, it was deemed safe to recreate the performance back in their London studio. Extensive testing of the resulting recordings have established a level of thought contamination deemed, “perfectly acceptable.””
Homeboy Sandman – Still Champion
New York indie rapper drops soulful album featuring MC/producer Deca. Bandcamp.
David Keenan – Crude
Dundalk singer-songwriter returns to the roots of things with just a guitar. Recorded in June this past summer, Crude focuses on the song. Stripped back. Junior Brother features. Bandcamp.
Kormac – Equivalent Exchange
Collaborative album from the Dublin producer. Features MayKay, Jafaris, Loah, Jack O’Rourke & more.
Molly O’Mahony – The House of David
West Cork native and Mongoose singer Molly O’Mahony’s debut solo album’s is informed by heartbreak, with sweet folk-leaning song with pop melodies and songs like ‘Her Song’. Available on Bandcamp.
Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin – The Deepest Breath
Dublin-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist releases solo album. His musical roots are in sean-nós singing, and influenced by folk singers from the English language tradition such as Liam Weldon, Luke Kelly, Anne Briggs, Margaret Barry, and Thomas McCarthy. Eoghan also plays with Skipper’s Alley, Aon Teanga: Un Chengey, Jiggy and Ultan O’Brien. Bandcamp.
Indistinct Chatter – An Ode to Soft Landings
Myles O’Reilly’s third album of ambient music with accompanying videos from the filmmaker. Bandcamp.
Run the Jewels – RTJ Cu4tro
Remix version of the 2020 Killer Mike and El-P’s fourth album, made entirely by Latin artists.
Jambinai – Apparition
South Korea’s maestros of intense folk-infused post-rock on Bella Union. New album features guest vocals from K Pop legend swja.
Headie One – No Borders: European Compilation Project
No Borders serves as Headie One’s first collaboration project, and contains songs only featuring artists from European countries. Includes contributions by artists from Germany (Luciano, Pajel, and Kalim), France (Gazo, Koba LaD, and Nej), the Netherlands (Frenna and Chivv), Belgium (Hamza), Italy (Shiva), and Sweden (Yasin).
Nas – King’s Disease III
Fifteenth studio album from the NY rapper and final in the trilogy. Produced by Hit Boy.
Jimmy Edgar – Liquids Heaven
Latest release for Innovative Leisure, Jimmy Edgar’s new one is a psychedelic canvas of future R&B, euphoric bass, mutant tear-the-club-up rap, foundation-splintering noise, and gossamer soul.
FaltyDL – A Nurse to My Patience
Drew Lustman’s new album features Interpol’s Paul Banks, Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard, Mykki Blanco and Julianna Barwick. Bandcamp.
Tyondai Braxton – Telekinesis
An 87-piece work for electric guitars, orchestra, choir and electronics, the result of a co-commission by the Southbank Centre London and Musica Nova, Helsinki Festival. Bandcamp.
Breanna Barbara – Nothin’ But Time
New Yorker Breanna Barbara’s recently featured in the best of the month with the song ‘Weaning’ cutting through a tense psychedelic blues rock intro with a howling vocal and crashing drums. New album out today via Fuzz Club, and produced by Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes).
VIRGIN PRUNES – … If I Die, I Die
40th Anniversary Edition of debut album from Irish band featuring Gavin Friday. Released on vinyl for the first time since 1982.
MGMT – 11•11•11
It’s a live album guys. Recorded at New York’s Guggenheim Museum on November 11th, 2011
Actress – Dummy Corporation EP
New EP from enigmatic electronic producer. “The overall idea is for this to be a demonstration of the process and the philosophical action art of creating modern day electronic music.” The electronic musician added, “I create these sketches, essentially like the fabrics, and I collage them together.… Once I see the picture, it’s embellished further and the process repeats.”
Jordana – I’m Doing Well, Thanks for Asking EP
22-year old artist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Jordana released the album Face The Wall this year. This EP follows it up. ‘You’re In The Way’.
Taylor Swift – Anti-Hero (Remixes) EP
A five-track remix release featuring Jayda G, Roosevelt, Bleachers.
