Here’s a rundown of new releases on DSPs and physical releases in record shops this week.

Nialler9 keeps a rolling list of Irish album releases here.

New Albums

English Teacher – This Could Be Texas

Leeds indie band English Teacher are one of my favourite new bands of the last year, so delighted that their debut album is out today, via Island Records.

They’ve been announced for Dublin and Belfast shows this May.

Maggie Rogers – Don’t Forget Me

The indie-pop singer-songwriter’s third album draws on country, disco, psychedelic rock, Y2K, and classic rock in the vein of Fleetwood Mac.

Melts – Field Theory

Second album from the Dublin four-piece synth-rock band, which was recorded live to tape in Black Mountain Studios and produced by Gilla Band’s Daniel Fox last summer.

The title takes the scientific term Field Theory, which describes how forces interact and influence particles around them, and applies it to the interactions between people, to the space between all of us, how people interact and affect others around them.

Clarissa Connelly – World of Work

Scottish-born, Copenhagen-based producer, composer, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist’s new album on Warp Records.

World of Work comes together as a dream-like synthesis of Nordic folk song, Celtic myth, medieval grimoires, modern pop music, as well as experimental composition and studio practices. It explores the sacred and the profane with the guidance of 20th-century French philosopher Georges Bataille.

Virgins – nothing hurt and everything was beautiful

Belfast shoegaze rock band as heard on ‘Softer’, a gentler more retro version of what Just Mustard are doing, one that reaches right back to the source with authentic guitar tones, and it can’t hurt that the central riff is very My Bloody Valentine.

Ian Lynch – All You Need Is Death (Original Soundtrack)

The debut soundtrack from Ian Lynch of Lankum / One Leg, One Eye, produced by John ‘Spud’ Murphy. All You Need Is Death’ is the soundtrack to director Paul Duane’s cosmic folk horror film. The film blends Irish folklore and musical traditions with nerve-wracking horror where songs that have never been heard before open the door to a powerful, ancient evil.

VOIDS – Swoon

Galway duo Voids return after nine year hiatus with a new album, moving on their sound somewhat from the coldwave music they were known for.

girl in red – I’M DOING IT AGAIN BABY!

The Norwegian alt-pop artist Marie Ulve’s second album. girl in red plays 3Arena in August.

Nia Archives – Silence Is Loud

UK jungle’s brightest young thing and “Emotional Junglist’ releases a debut full-length.

Still House Plants – If I don’t make it, I love u

UK wonky art rock trio draw on noise rock, slowcore, post-rock, and jazz. Sounds like Tirzah backed by Slint to me.

Lynks – ABOMINATION

Hedonistic queer electronic pop on Heavenly Recordings. Self-written, self-produced, self-effacing and self-aggrandising, Lynx is self-described as the “fourth horseman of the queer apocalypse.”

Nick Cave & Warren Ellis – Back to Black

Soundtrack of the film starring Marisa Abela as Amy.

UTO – When all you want to do is be the fire part of fire

French duo making intriguing Indie IDM electronic pop, with their second album on InFiné. “French cottage-core?”

New EPs out today

The Cliffords – Strawberry Scented EP

Debut EP from the Cork alt-rock-pop band who I’ve vibed with on the first two singles from the release.

“‘Strawberry Scented’ is the soundtrack to our shared experience as vibrant, maturing, and unapologetically Irish youth. We wrote these songs to capture the complexities of love, heartbreak, and the self-reflective nature of our generation. What started as a bit of fun became a familial bond between musicians devoted to writing songs that we adore, even if they are a bit sad sometimes.”

Baby Rose & BADBADNOTGOOD – Slow Burn

Atlanta based soulful singer, songwriter, and producer collaborates with the alt jazz band on a six-track EP.

Lakker – Pathway

“Pathway was written in the same sessions as our last EP, Gateway. No overriding concept here, no lengthy press-release, just good, heads-down tunes. This one leans slightly more towards the dancefloor, but only slightly. We touched on our love of death metal again in some of the sound design and rhythms.”
