NewDad’s Julie Dawson releases solo single produced by Space Dimension Controller

The NewDad singer has teamed up with Jack Hamill (Space Dimension Controller) on a surprise debut solo single.

Collaboration was a key element in the creation of “Silly Little Song”. Julie teamed up with fellow Irish artist, Jack Hamill, (aka Space Dimension Controller), an exploratory producer from Belfast, whose tracks served as the foundation for her songwriting experiments.  They met via their mutual friend Dan Foat. Knowing that both were seeking to try out something different in their respective musical paths, he connected the pair remotely via WhatsApp. Julie received a playlist of Hamill’s instrumental ideas, chose to work on those that resonated with her, and quickly recorded the vocals at the Roundhouse studios late in the evenings. Initially joining forces to work on just one or two tracks very casually, the  process was so fluid and fruitful that the pair soon found themselves with a sizable body of work that pushed both their respective musical boundaries.

Drawing inspiration primarily from TV and film, rather than personal experiences, Julie sought to craft songs that feel more like a cinematic journey. This shift in inspiration is evident in the new soundscapes. The leftfield electronic production by Hamill playing a crucial role in building this alternative universe, enabling Julie to break away from traditional song structures. “Silly Little Song” exemplifies this approach, showcasing their willingness to embrace unconventional sounds and arrangements together.
