Below you will find the fourth annual countdown of the top 30 Irish albums as voted by readers and commenters of this blog. There are some surprises in there to me. The number one album on the list actually won by a fair few votes. In a year where there was no clear favourite, it’s interesting to see such an album top the list. A few of the albums charted quite highly considering they were only released in the last month or so.
Anyway, I hope you discover something from the list you had dismissed or not heard before (I know I have). A full list of the songs and albums are available in a Google Document at the end of the post (might be worthwhile for the bands featured to see what songs struck a chord with people). The last two years winner has gone on to win the Choice Music Prize. Will it be three in a row? Merry Christmas everyone and thanks for stopping by throughout the year.

congrads to paddy!!!
i could argue a few points but this seems a pretty fair list to me…only 2 albums in the top 10 that i wouldnt put in there….
thats a good top ten, nice snapshot of the Irish underground.
Fantastic list. Apart from one notable ommission. I blame the voting public.
Thanks peeps.
@Nialler – you can stick up an mp3 there if you want.
well deserved number 1 slot for patrick kelleher , delighted to see all my favourites in the top 10.
Cool
Good list overall but with one exception – Where is Herm’s ‘Monsters’? IMO one of the most refreshing and original Irish albums to come out over the last few years, never mind 2009!
Thanks,
Mic
Thanks for all the lovely votes. Another omission is Kevin Blake’s ‘You are What you hear’, I had my first listen over Christmas and it’s really great
