Premiere: Hvmmingbyrd’s ‘Prisms’ is a powerful show of support

Luke Sharkey

Comprised of singer-songwriters Deborah Byrne & Suzette Das, Hvmmingbyrd’s style of pop music is one that cultivates a steady hypnotism over its listeners.

‘Prisms’ is the latest single from the group, who released their debut EP Know My Name in 2016. With intricate self-production, including a pulsating sub-bass, and two silky smooth vocal performances, the track oozes an ephemeral charm.

Written in response to the Belfast trail verdict, the group describe the track as “A love song for the women in our lives who deserve better”. The repeated refrain of “They’re like moths to a flame, you’re worth a thousand of them” makes the song’s intent clear. A poignant message from a superb song.
