Premiere: Waterford’s Alex Gough starts his morning the right way with ‘Breakfast’

Ruth Cronin

Meet Alex Gough, a Waterford hailing rapper.

2018 saw Gough’s inception as an artist with the release of his EP ‘Art Is Alive And Well’ and its follow up ‘Informercial Tape’ but before that he had a seasoned music career as a producer and drummer playing with Central Hall, Ghostking is Dead & Automatic Blue.

Premiering here on the site today is the new music video for his latest single ‘Breakfast‘.

Alex Gough - Breakfast (Official Video)

‘Breakfast’ boasts lo-fi hip-hop beats and electronic brass lines, complimented by Gough’s hook filled rhymes, “bridges to burn, tables to turn, work hard while you’re young till’ you crash and you burn”. His voice is deep and smooth and is contrasted completely by the syncopated bass line rhythms. The whole song is dripping in confidence.

The track’s genesis was a hook written on a bus home from Longitude in 2016, later rediscovered and repurposed with bouncy, groovy production and we’re glad it got this second lease of life.

The quirky music video was directed by Gough and his brother Jordan and features the former in small-town Ireland scenes – accompanied by a box of Cornflakes.
