After a series of EPs which have explored electronic music driven by synthesizers, contemplative vocals and varying instrumentation Donegal’s Keith Mannion as SlowPlaceLikeHome has an album called Romolo on the way on Bluestack Records.
Mannion says his music is inspired by his South Donegal and Atlantic North West surroundings and the album certainly has touches of the fantastical meander going on. It’s also a lot more live than the previous, more bedroom-feel recordings of the other EPs, so much so that it almost sounds like a different project completely, particular as Mannion sings in a structure more directly and in a more straight-forward manner, though much of it is treated with effects: reverb and such.
So much so, that ‘Luna’, a track from the album has a shoegaze electronic vibe lifted by gentle bass notes and bells. The song still has a very clear electronic yearning at its centre. The song features on Romolo, which is out on August 11th.
Ditto for the recent single – ‘She Comes in Colour Stereo’
