Soccer Mommy misses her mum on new single & video ‘Yellow Is The Colour Of Her Eyes’

Luke Sharkey

Nashville native Soccer Mommy today releases her second single of 2019 in ‘Yellow Is The Colour Of Her Eyes’.

The track is the follow up to ‘Lucy’, which was the first single we’d heard from the indie artist since her largely breakthrough 2018 album Clean.

It’s a gorgeous song, totalling over seven minutes in length. A perfect symposium of mid-western indie and slightly more pop-centred sounds and arrangements.

Speaking on the new single, the artist states that “The song was inspired by a time when I was on the road constantly and I felt like I was losing time – specifically with my mother. It’s also a song that I feel really showcases my writing when it comes to instrumentation, so it’s one that makes me really proud.”

The track actually features a guest appearance from harpist Mary Lattimore, though much of the arrangement is awash enough in chorus and rever so as to blend into one – so hearing it outright might prove a little tricky.

The very dreamy video for the single is directed by Her Smell short film director Alex Ross Perry, who elegantly captures the underlying sense of nostalgia about the track as well as literally shooting most of the video in the colour yellow.
