The Seattle emo godfathers play their first ever Irish show at The Grand Social.
Sunny Day Real Estate will play Ireland for the very first time on Thursday August 6th, taking over The Grand Social for a one-off headline show, presented by Crosstown Concerts. Doors are at 7pm, tickets €30 plus booking fee via thegrandsocial.ie.
Formed in Seattle in 1992, the four-piece of Jeremy Enigk, Dan Hoerner, William Goldsmith and Nate Mendel are widely regarded as the godfathers of emo.
Their 1994 debut Diary, released on Sub Pop, was met with critical acclaim and later topped Rolling Stone’s list of the 40 greatest emo albums of all time. A follow-up, LP2, arrived in 1995 after the band had already split.
The reunited band, minus Mendel, returned in 1998 with How It Feels to Be Something On, followed by a live album in 1999 and The Rising Tide in 2000, before breaking up again. The original four-piece reunited for touring in 2009 and 2010, playing their first ever European shows at Primavera Sound in Spain, along with Coachella. Since The Rising Tide, their only new recorded output has been 2014’s ‘Lipton Witch’, a Record Store Day split 7″ with Circa Survive.

In 2022, Enigk, Hoerner and Goldsmith returned to the road for a sold-out 24-city tour, rounded out by Greg Suran and Chris Jordan. This Grand Social show marks their first time playing Irish shores.
