Super Extra Bonus Party debut anthemic & shimmering ‘Purple Heart’ ahead of first headline Dublin show in seven years

Super Extra Bonus Party are now, well and truly back.

On Saturday, Nialler9 presents the six-piece band’s first headline Dublin gig in seven years.

Where the band’s first two albums adopted a mixtape aesthetic in the way they brought electronica, dance, post-rock, hip-hop and indie-pop over the course of their full-lengths.

In November, the band returned with ‘Switzerland’, a song that stuck closer to a melding of electronics and indie sensibilities that echo the likes of Caribou.

The followup song then, ‘Purple Heart’ debuting online here, carries on from that more refined focus while retaining an anthemic-leaning production. The song’s crystalline guitar lines and melancholic but uplifting vocals are superseded by the band’s penchant for synthesizer dance-friendly passages. ‘Purple Heart’ doesn’t feel ramraided by such flips – instead the band effectively merge the two sounds. This is Super Extra Bonus Party Mk III.  There’s more to come.
