Zaska and Tolü Makay team up for good times on Rear View (Premiere)
Zaska has been a busy man this year releasing his debut album It Takes A Village as well as launching a 28-day video campaign to convince Vulfpeck that he would be an ideal collaborative partner. Never one to rest on his laurels, the funk thespian is already back in action. Today we’re premiering his new song and video ‘Rear View’ featuring Tolü Makay on vocal duties.
‘Rear View’ sees Zaska heading in a rawer direction with stripped back production and a minimalist approach. Feeling not far from a live session recording, the exceedingly smooth track places Makay’s charming soulful vocals as a rightful centrepiece for attention. Continuing Zaska’s passion for collaboration, the song also features Dylan Lynch (Little Green Cars/Soda Blonde) on drums, Luke Dunford (Chief Keegan) on keys and Kevin Higgins (Mescalito). ‘Rear View’ is a featherweight piece with an abounding sense of fun, which is only further crystallized by its playful visual companion.
“It was a conscious decision to make a change from the highly-produced sound of my album, It Takes A Village” Zaska explains. “Recording ‘Rear View’ live let us strip the song back to its natural elements to give everything its breathing room in the mix and get closer to that raw live feeling that we’re known for.”
Zaska has upcoming live shows at the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival and the Westival ‘Shock and Awe’ Halloween Ball.
