A couple of cultural notes of interest from around the city (hopefully a recurring feature going forward for this column).

If you missed it yesterday, JusMe re-recorded his ‘History of Irish Hip-Hop on Vinyl‘ for Nialler9 this week, after it went down a treat at IndieCork last month. The boss will also be relaying it to this parish’s faithful via the Nialler9 podcast at some point in the not too dim-and-distant… Cork Community Gamelan starts its first six-week course this week. The Javanese ensemble/instrument is a staple of the city’s musical academic circles, but CCG’s open workshops have taken it into the city’s community. The Irish national ensemble also operates out of Cork, and features some of the city’s resident musical busybodies. More info here… Fans of street art, graffiti and pop-culture would be well-served to saunter out to local punk-folk singer/songwriter Kendo Nagasaki’s next exhibition, launching this Saturday evening at Union Grind coffee shop on Union Quay (next to the Phoenix)… Last but not least, congratulations to Cork City FC’s men *and* women’s teams for sealing the deal on a double-double to cap off a season that you couldn’t possibly have written. In the city’s spirit of cultural independence, the team is of course fan-owned and governed. Europe next year, lads…
