13 new Irish songs you should hear this week

Luke Sharkey

A lot of Irish music comes Nialler9’s way and there’s little time to feature everything we think is worthy of a thumbs up or more ears. Every week, we collate the songs that pass our writers that deserve to be heard by you. For more extensive Irish coverage, follow our Spotify playlist or hit up the Irish section.

1.

Rosie Carney

I Spoke To God

Stunning indie folk from NI-based artist Rosie Carney on ‘I Spoke To God’.

This delicate, heart-aching cut is lifted from the artist’s brand new I Dreamed I Was The Night EP.

2.

Pat Lagoon

Problem

One of our favourite cuts on Lagoon’s new Box Room EP. Although ‘Problem’ is a highlight for sure, the whole project is solid from front to back and well worthy of your time.

3.

Bonnie Spencer x Uwmami

Strawberry Kisses

Dublin producer Uwmami continues her recent busy release schedule with ‘Strawberry Kisses’, a collaboration with Irish R&B artist Bonnie Spencer.

4.

Why Axis

Bloodstain

The video for Why-Axis’ ‘Bloodstain’ (taken from his Moody Fuck EP) is a gorgeous document of young party culture in our Capital pre-lockdown. We’ll have to make do with videos until we can get the real thing once again.

5.

NewDad

Swimming

West Coast alternative rock outfit NewDad are killing it on their new (and second ever) single ‘Swimming’.

This tune leaves such a strong impression after first listen, from the slacker pop guitar lines to the wonderful, woozy vocal delivery and very post-punk bass line. This is all topped off the simple, yet effect repeated chorus of “I feel fucked”, excellent stuff.

6.

Krome

Brain Disease

PX Music MC Krome is steadily announcing himself as a premier force in Irish hip-hop thanks to releases like ‘Brain Disease’.

7.

Moylan

It’s Alright

Waterford native singer-songwriter Moylan released the dreamy and evolving ‘It’s Alright’ at the start of April. Sweet indie music for daydreams.

8.

Spekulativ Fiktion

Don Conroy

One of the top MCs down Leeside way Spekulativ Fiktion embraces a menacing beat with gusto on latest track ‘Don Conroy’. Really solid bars and flow throughout this.

9.

Fields

Lincoln

We premiered the video for FIELDS’ ‘Lincoln’ on the site last week, check it out here.

10.

Bleeding Heart Pigeons

Real Connection

Limerick three-piece Bleeding Heart Pigeons come through with some moody indie electronica on new cut ‘Real Connection’. The track is one half of a larger double single release under the same name.

11.

Sea High

Dreamland (Down Bad Remix)

Dundalk MC Sea High absolutely shines on the very classic hip-hop styled remix of ‘Dreamland’. Bars for days.

12.

Andi

Hermit

A really impressive debut single from Irish band Andi here with ‘Hermit’. Top marks to vocalist Amy Kelly for her performance on this tune. There’s a heightened sense of theatricality which makes ‘Hermit’ really stand out.

13.

Slaney

Shy Away

Really glossy synth-pop from Slaney on her new single ‘Shy-Away’. The half hushed vocal performance works excellently with the very tropical electronic arrangement.
