Guestlist: 3 decades of dance music classics as chosen by Bugged Out!

Bugged Out! are one of the UK’s longest running club nights about to enter their third decade.

Bugged Out! put on early shows for Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers, Derrick Carter and Green Velvet, released compilations by Erol Alkan, Hot Chip, Felix Da Housecat and Damian Lazarus amongst many others, were a founding part of the Field Day festival and ran the much loved Bugged Out! Weekender for five years. Bugged Out has also held down residences around Europe in Ibiza, Barcelona and Milan.

In recent years Bugged Out! have promoted Bicep’s London live shows, hosted a stage at the Wide Awake festival and put on some monster shows at Printworks, the most recent helmed by The Chemical Brothers.

To celebrate the 30 year milestone, Bugged Out! host an all-day showcase at Drumsheds in London on October 21st, with live sets from Hot Chip, Orbital and DJ sets from Basement Jaxx, A-Trak, Erol Alkan, Etienne De Crecy B2B Boombass (Cassius) B2B DJ Falcon, Kittin, Heidi, Nadia Ksaiba and more.

And for Nialler9, long standing resident Lemmy Ashton picks some of the tracks that have defined the club’s time on the UK club landscape in the form of the Bugged Out! playlist…

The Chemical Brothers – Saturate
One of their DJ only Electronic Battle Weapons’ that went on to become the cornerstone of the We Are The NIght album. Their best club track?

Chemical Brothers - Saturate

Soulwax – Krack
Monster from their Nite Versions album of techno tracks that usurped the ‘guitar version’ of Soulwax once and for all.

Krack

Mylo – Drop the Pressure
The biggest dance act of the mid 00s, this track was ubiquitous – Mylo headlined our 10th birthday at The End in 2005.

Mylo - Drop The Pressure

Simian Mobile Disco – Hustler
SMD used to be a psych rock band called Simian who Justice remixed to prominence. Hustler was their own track that put them on the map.

Simian Mobile Disco - Hustler

Tiga – You’re Going To Want Me
Jake Shears from Scissor Sisters on vocals and the poppiest tune from Tiga’s debut album Sexor.

Tiga - You Gonna Want Me

Lindstrom – I Feel Space
One of those unique tunes that doesn’t really fit into any genre but – despite this – seemed to pop up at every club going as it’s such an incredible track.

Lindstrom - I Feel Space (Original Version)

Fischerspooner – Emerge
Peak electroclash, punky synth driven monster that seems to use the same chords as ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ – we first heard played out by techno DJ Dave Clarke.

Fischerspooner - Emerge

Freeform Five – Perspex Sex (Ewan Pearson HI-NRG)
From the electro-house era that emerged from electro-clash… Ewan Pearson could do no wrong at the time and this remix was his absolute best.

Freeform Five - Perspex Sex (Ewan's Hi-NRG Remix)

Nathan Fake – The Sky Was Pink (James Holden)
Long, unfurling and seductive with a bump in the bassline. This put both Fake and Holden on everyone’s lips.

Nathan Fake - The Sky Was Pink (James Holden remix)

Alan Braxe & Fred Falke – Intro
With a cute sample from the The Jet’s one hit wonder ‘Crush On You’ this French Touch beauty was all over Ibiza and everyone’s box in 2000.

Alan Braxe, Fred Falke - Intro (Official Audio)

Green Velvet – Flash
One of Bugged Out’s favourite artists, we once gave out 500 fun cameras at the door of the club when he performed live so everyone could snap him… ‘Camera’s ready, prepare to flash…’

Green Velvet - Flash (1995)

Daft Punk – Da Funk
Daft Punk played this live at Bugged Out on their first ever tour in 1995. It was £5 to get in…

Daft Punk - Da Funk (Official Music Video Remastered)

69 – Desire
Carl Craig’s most beautiful work and a mainstay in our resident James Holroyd’s warm up sets in 1995.

69 - Desire

Felix Da Housecat – Silver Screen, Shower Scene
Voiced by Miss Kittin this Felix Da Housecat track sampled The Flirts to great effect and became one of the biggest hits of the electroclash era.

Felix Da Housecat - Silver Screen (Shower Scene)

Underworld – Two Months Off
Perhaps eclipsed by other more famous Underworld tracks, Two Months off is a big Bugged Out favourite with its appealing bells and huge building chords…

Underworld - Two Months Off

Paperclip People – Throw
Carl Craig again and a track that LCD Soundsystem once covered live with James Murphy providing the falsetto vocals.

Paperclip People - "Throw"

Cassius – 1999
After Motorbass came the dance floor bombs of Cassius. 1999 was even a chart hit, such was the desire for more French house in that era.

Cassius - Cassius 1999 (Radio Edit) [Official Audio]

Dusky – Careless
The anthem that cemented Dusky as one of the kings of the 2010s.

Dusky - Careless

Bicep – Glue
We’ve had the Bicep boys at various BuggedOut’s over the years, from our seaside weekender to back to back sold out nights at Ally Pally.

BICEP | GLUE (Official Video)

Stardust – Music Sounds Better With You
Could listen to this loop on repeat forever, surely the greatest groove ever sampled.

Stardust - Music Sounds Better With You (Official Music Video)

Marie Davidson – Work It (Soulwax Remix)
Shook the foundations of Printworks when we first heard it out at our 25th birthday party celebrations. An incredible remix.

Marie Davidson - 'Work It (Soulwax Remix)'

Todd Terje – Ragysh
A synth, some delays and a certified summer banger.

Todd Terje - Ragysh (Original)
