Madra Salach, the Dublin alternative folk six-piece have finally released a recorded single.
After a busy summer that saw Madra Salach play multiple sets at a lot of Irish festivals including Electric Picnic, Beyond The Pale and All Together Now, ‘Blue & Gold’, the Dublin band’s debut single is out today.
Madra Salach features members of different bands in Dublin’s indie scene including Fizzy Orange, and have made a name for themselves for their traditional-rooted performances, with clear Lankum influences in the arrangements, but a bit more on the raggle taggle alternative Pogues kick.
‘Blue & Gold’ is an original song inspired by singer Paul Banks habit of buying scratch cards.
“In the absence of any lucrative career path or generational wealth, I started habitually buying scratch cards in the hope of running into a small fortune in my early twenties usually opted for a €2 All Cash, a small ticket coloured blue and gold. My ‘get rich quick’ scheme proved unfruitful, but I did get a song out of it.”
MADRA SALACH are: Paul Banks (vocals), Adam Cullen (guitar), Jack Martin (mandolin/tin whistle/synth), Maxime Arnold (harmonium), Dara Duffy (drums), and Jack Lawlor (bass).
The group were recently taking on by Erin Barker in T-Time management (The Murder Capital / Bold Love / Cliffords / Etta Marcus).
Madra Salach will play UK and European tastemaker festivals Left of the Dial, Live At Leeds, The Great Escape: First 50 and a highly anticipated One’s To Watch slot at The George in Shadwell, London on 14 October.
