The Irish folkies announce their third album Paddywhackery for September 18th release, and confirm a run of dates including All Together Now, Electric Picnic and Dublin’s 3Arena.
The Mary Wallopers have released ‘Landlord’s Demise’, the latest cut from their upcoming third album Paddywhackery, after recent song ‘Crowns Of England’.
The song is a solo turn from songwriter Andrew Hendy on vocals and bodhrán, with whistle from bandmate Finnian O Connor added in. It’s a straightforward tale of a landlord getting his comeuppance, drawn from a true story about a manor house crumbling around its aristocratic owner, and partly inspired by Tom Barry’s Guerilla Days in Ireland.
Hendy said the song is about the collapse of empire in Ireland and the band’s contempt for the landlord class, adding that it’s for renters dealing with damp flats and rising rents.
Paddywhackery is the follow-up to 2023’s Irish Rock’n’Roll, the album where the band first started writing their own material. Recorded over an intense two-week session with James Skelly of The Coral and engineer Chris Taylor, the record leans into the band’s chaotic energy.

Andrew and Charles Hendy explained the title as a reclaiming of the term, pointing out that people have called the band “paddywhackery” for being too Irish, even as Irishness has become fashionable. Rather than take offence, they decided to own it.
Paddywhackery is out September 18th on BC Records, on vinyl, CD and digital.
