Goldie Lookin Chain are a comedy hip hop group from Newport, Wales, who formed in 2000 and released their debut album, Don’t Blame the Chain, in 2001. Rapping in thick local accents and slang, they built a cult following on self-released CD-Rs, satirising hip hop, consumer culture, “chav” culture and life in Newport. They supported Super Furry Animals, The Streets and The Darkness, and The Darkness’s label signed them in 2003.

Their breakthrough came in 2004 with ‘Guns Don’t Kill People, Rappers Do’, which reached number three on the UK Singles Chart. It was followed by ‘Your Mother’s Got a Penis’ and ‘You Knows I Loves You, Baby’, and Greatest Hits, a collection of tracks from their earlier self-released albums, went to number five on the UK Albums Chart. They followed it with Safe as Fuck (2005) and Asbo 4 Life (2009), and have kept touring and releasing music since.
