The legacy of The Clash

It was the “Straight to Hell”-sampling “Paper Planes” from MIA’s forthcoming Kala that reminded me about one of my favourite live albums The Clash – From Here to Eternity: Live, an all encompassing live compilation of material recorded from 1978-1982 and a great introduction to the band. I first heard it when LPX lent me a copy in fifth year of school when I was all of 17. It has that intense quality that all good live recordings have and it has a wonderful clarity to it and confirms that The Clash were one of the best punk/rock and roll bands to ever grace a stage.

This nostalgia has led me on a journey perusing through various video sites looking for live footage and here are the results of my pillage – loads of Clash live footage, a tribute to Joe Strummer performed at the Grammys by Bruce Springsteen, Dave Grohl, Elvis Costello and an Arcade Fire cover.
