I love Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace. I love Super Furry Animals. So put the two together and you’ve got an interesting music video concept. Matt Berry already starred in a hilarious music video “Sanchez” (see below) so this is no stretch for him. Directed by Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd) it keeps the vintage look of Darkplace and succeeds in lifting the song. Nice to see the Furries move away from Pete Fowler animation for a change (though I love his work).

Actually, because of this video, I’ve started listening to Hey Venus! a lot more. My initial reactions were good but not a long-lasting player but repeated listens have me enraptured. They sure know how to knock out a good tune effortlessly it seems. Current favourite is “The Gift that keeps giving”. SFA gold.

Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace. Possibly the greatest show in the world, ever… Possibly. Great post sir. And great direction by Mr. Ayoade. The man is a bit of genius.

Great post! My favorite comedy and music at the mo’ have collided in one vid. Not only do I love Darkplace, but I’ve also really dug Matt Berry’s performance in the IT crowd this year, and I’m overjoyed at the strength of Hey Venus!, SFA’s best album for eons.
