Clever boys. I have been hoping that a band would take the album-release process and turn it on its head and Radiohead are the only band I can see who have the comfort to do it (Plus they hinted at it).
In Rainbows is available from this website as a digital download, which YOU DECIDE HOW MUCH YOU WANT TO PAY FOR IT from the 10th of October. It will also be available in a Discbox which includes the album on CD, 2 x 12″ Vinyls, a second enhanced CD, artwork and lyric books in a hardback case for the price of £40. The album download is also included. An impressive spread on Radiohead’s behalf and one, seemingly without any record label backing.
Update: I think this pretty much sums it up:
“What Radiohead are doing is leaking their own album, two months before its physical release — same as everything else does — but they’re turning it into an event and a moral decision about whether you should pay for that leak or you should just steal/take it/sample it and maybe buy it later, whatever you want to call it. And they’ve enticed people to actually give them money for a leak in part by, at this moment, setting up this deluxe product as your only other choice to pay for their music. Pretty clever.

“So Far, it is only available from this website”– so the idea is that eventually they will ship regular CDs, eh? Well, I would guess that is going to happen on 12/3, same as when those who ordered the huge package get their shit. No idea if a label will be involved, and it already hints that the CD will be in stores of some kind.”

nice.i’m sure it would’ve been announced by now had they signed to another label.that said,it is radiohead so maybe not.

“…nice.i’m sure it would’ve been announced by now had they signed to another label.that said,it is radiohead so maybe not…”
i remember reading some time ago the band saying how this album would be self released and that they had “outgrown” the need for a record label… or something like that
“…Radiohead are the only band I can see…”
Kristin Hersh has been doing this for ages, but she’s finding it a struggle. Let’s hope the ‘head can forge a new path.
would it be ignorant stupid of me to ask who kristin hersh is? point me in the right direction and i’ll give it a blast
🙂
😮 I’d hope ignorant rather than stupid. Formerly of Throwing Muses, now solo/50 Foot Wave. Try: http://www.throwingmusic.com
don’t know them either, but i’ll give them a blast anyhoo
best news eva, clever clever boys. plus they pulled a prank by hinting to fans – by mean of a series of coded messages on their site – that it wouldn’t be out til march 2008. cheeky as fook. the discbox has to be got, if only for the reason that “down is the new up” = one of the best tunes i ever did hear. and this album will be their best yet – i know cos i’m a radiohead obsessive and have heard most of the new material live. it’s truly great.
10/10, radiohead ftw
