#COVIDartscrisis with THISISPOPBABY & National Campaign for the Arts (Nialler9 Podcast)

Discussing the Irish government’s response to the arts community and uproar that followed in the wake of announcements.

Last Friday, the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Josepha Madigan introduced a number of initiatives for the arts in Ireland in response to the COVID-19 crisis that was met with a lot of consternation.

The overview of the schemes are covered here.

“Confused and confusing”

“A gutpunch”

“A disaster”

“Uproar”

It’s been seven days since the announcements and there has been a number of developments since then.

I spoke to Angela Dorgan (Chair of the National Campaign for the Arts)  and  Jenny Jennings (THISISPOPBABY)  about their reactions to the schemes and what they want to see happen next and what’s to come in a decimated industry,  forever undervalued and under-appreciated by the government.
