Bon Iver, Lizzo, Vampire Weekend & more all Grammy nominated for album of the year

Luke Sharkey

It’s that time of the year again.

The nominations for the 2020 Grammys have been officially released, let’s have a look at what the story is.

Barring the exclusion of Tyler The Creator, the nominees for album of the year seem like fairly straight forward picks. Lizzo’s Cuz I Love You will surely jostle with Billie Eilish’s When We All Fall Asleep for bookies favourite. Meanwhile, Bon Iver and Vampire Weekend’s inclusion is a neat tip of the hat to the worlds of indie.

Lana Del Rey - Doin Time (Official Audio)

Lana Del Ray would be an excellent choice, her Norman Fucking Rockwell is a genuine leap forward for the artist. H.E.R. & Lil Nas X are also nominated.

‘Old Town Road’ will win record of the year, though ‘Bad Guy’, ‘Truth Hurts’ & ‘Sunflower’ probably won’t be too far behind it. Speaking of which, Lil Nas X is a likely favourite to pick up the best new artist award, though both Billie and Lizzo would be worthy winners too.

A BOY IS A GUN*

Tyler The Creator’s IGOR and Meek Mill’s Championships will battle it out for best rap album of the year. There are legitimate questions about whether IGOR should qualify in that category at all, but considering it has it should take the prize.
