The potential for a new space to host electronic musicians is being explored.
Éanna Cunnane has formed a venture called Prior Art to get feedback from the Irish electronic community about whether a dedicated space for electronic music producers, DJs and artists is needed, and what it should look like.
With a background in technology, Éanna is aiming to launch a space that will facilitate co-working for electronic practitioners, learning and networking opportunities, gear sharing and workshops.
There are examples of spaces like this in Europe to look at as a precedence – including Willem Twee studios in the Netherlands, Ircam in Paris, and Stockholm’s Electronic Music Studios.
A survey is below, along with a statement.
Electronic sound is pervasive in our culture. It’s used across music genres, in soundtracks and sound design for screen and audio, and in events and clubs of all types. But though it’s undergoing a resurgence in Ireland, dedicated spaces to support those wishing to learn, create and collaborate on it are limited.
Prior Art Soundworks is a venture formed to understand the needs of those working with electronic sound and to assess the feasibility of launching a new type of creative space for them – not a studio, but a facility offering the best modern and vintage equipment and the ability to work with and learn from other creators and producers.
Éanna Cunnane from Prior Art is currently running a survey to gather input on what types of facilities and support this space could offer, with the aim of making it as accessible and inclusive as possible.
Whether you’re already a composer, musician or producer, or curious about learning how to work with electronic sound and music, you can provide input by completing the short survey at this link.
The survey will remain open until the end of April to give you an opportunity to help shape the vision for a space that will support culture and creativity in Ireland.
