I listened to The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn a good few times when it came out but promptly forgot about it. That is…..TILL NOW….when I checked out this performance video. Now, thanks to their Bjork-esque aspirations and Mulholland Drive-esque weirdness I have no desire to indulge this pair for a while. It’s bad misguided art. Am I being too harsh? Judge for yourself. They sacrificed the original for some hip hop beats too.

they definitely don’t have “dope skillz” but it’s not all that bad. not much of an improvement either though i suppose…
I’m just straight not feeling this and I think its because the “costume” is distracting me. I saw them live last year at their label’s block party in Chicago. So underwhelming. They’re not getting much traction stateside either. Maybe its their unsavory attempt at “unidentified” accents and bad makeup/wardrobe. Though can I get my hands on those glasses their backer is rocking?
Can’t help feel that if this was someone like Bat For Lashes, everyone would be lapping it up. I quite like it.
But they DO tend to divide people. I played ‘Japan’ off that album on Phantom earlier this year at about 11 in the morning and asked for people’s views. Man was it a mixed response, and the bad stuff was very critical of them.
I saw them in Whelan’s about two years ago, and they were great live.
Call me old fashioned if you will but I quite like it. I found the album a bit too much but a few of their tracks are pretty good.
I’d agree with Sinead that if this were Bat for Lashes or even Bjork we’d probably be talking about how quirky it was etc etc..
The difference between Bjork and CocoRosie for me, is that they both deal in pretensiousness but CR don’t have the tunes.
Never been the biggest CocoRosie fan at all…
But I have to admit that they do have 1 or 2 really good tunes in them.
On the current record for instance, I think “Werewolf” is a ridiculously brilliant song.
Fully agree with what Sinéad said.
CocoRosie are pure marmite. I happen to love them myself. Check our their first too albums before giving the third a go. Particularly ‘By your side’ off the first album.
i cant fucking stand these two creepy freaks.
Saw them in Amsterdam and they were ODD…but not in good way, im a pretentious nonsensical way.
bleurgh.
Echo that they were great in Whelan’s last year; one of the gigs of the year. I think if you can get past the ridiculous hippy fancy dress nonsense (and I hate hippies as much as the next right-thinking citizen), they sound great. Just listen to the above track without watching the video, and it’s not so bad. That said, the new album isn’t as interesting as the previous two. Comparing them to Bjork is just plain unfair on them, and who is going to come across well on a cheesy French daytime TV show?
Ok, I agree that performance is embarrassing, but I saw them live a few months ago and I thought they were stunning live- even if of the three albums I rate ‘Adventures..’the least- I don’t even like it to be honest. But I forgive them everything because I love ‘La Maison..’

You people need to get over yourselves
This is f*cking awesome!

I’d be honoured if someone compared me to Bjork, although in general comparing two acts simply because they are both eccentric/experimental is a bit lazy, but Bjork and CocoRosie have more in common than other artists.
And as far as I know this is not a daytime show, it’s one of the major prime time talk shows and their musical guests are always outstanding, PJ Harvey was on a few weeks ago.
saw them live at primavera 2010. they were quality, had never heard their music before, they took me by complete surprise. I think they surpass bjork to be honest.
