Daithí, Ships, Bantum & Susan O’ Neill (SON) head up Music Minds 2020 for a weekend of live music and panel discussion this month

One of the most exciting additions to the Irish music festival ecology in 2019, Music Minds is returning to Doolin this year between January 17th and 20th.

The festival boasts an inclusive ethos, incorporating live performance, panel discussions and aspects of musical education. In this sense, it’s a unique phenomenon on the Irish music calendar, one which should strongly interest aspiring composers, producers and industry heads as well as the general public eager for merriment and live performance from some of the nation’s top talents.

The calibre of this year’s lineup speaks for itself. Music Minds 2020 is headlined by Daithí, just months after the release of his superb L.O.S.S. LP. He will be performing a full live set alongside some esteemed guests as well as participating in some of the various chat-show styled panel discussions which will be taking place throughout the weekend.

Choice Music Prize winners Ships will also be performing a live set, hopefully previewing some of their highly anticipated new material and there will be a live set from Susan O’Neill aka SON who also sings with King Kong Company.

While the whole festival takes place at the Hotel Doolin, this year’s chat-show styled panel discussions have been moved to the Barn adjacent to the main building. It’s clear that attention to detail has been a key philosophy in curating the discussion lineups. Highlights include a long-form discussion surrounding the highs and lows of the Irish music industry which is chaired by Homebeat’s Emmet Condon and IMRO Chairperson Eleanor McEvoy. A panel, which will dedicate itself to the best methods of promoting music in rural Ireland, stands out as a unique learning opportunity for so many emerging musicians throughout the country.
