Drugschool64 – ‘Granny’s Garden Suite’
Drugschool64 is Simon Bird and David Whyte’s new experimental project. The pair’s first piece, ‘Granny’s Garden Suite’ explores music and visual and and reimagines a bonkers score on an old video game, in this case, the BBC Micro game Granny’s Garden.
It’s like reliving the sensations playing video games, through a nostalgic filter and through a composition that veers between taking the piss and euphoric happy house, early 8-bit MIDI sounds, slap bass, dance vocal samples, harmonica, acoustic and whistle music.
The whole thing is a deranged and imaginative nostalgic trip through periphery music of the last 30 years.
