Gorillaz share superb new single ‘Désole’ featuring Fatoumata Diawara
Those peesky Gorillaz are up to no good again.
They’ve shared the second episode in the new Song Machine series, the first of which was ‘Momentary Bliss’ with Slowthai and Slaves.
‘Désole’ is the new single, featuring Mali born actor and singer Fatoumata Diawara.
I prefer this track to ‘Momentary Bliss’, which despite some good energy doesn’t have much replay value.
‘Désole’ feels very much like a more nuanced track, boasting a very layered and evolving arrangement.
That, coupled with a better vocal take from Alburn than the first single, and a fantastic breakdown section makes ‘Désole’ a bit of a gem.
On a side note, seeing the animated Gorillaz avatars is a fair bit of a nostalgia rush. Would be fantastic to see the project try out another narrative experience like that on Demon Days and Plastic Beach someday.
