The Lumo Club DJs pick their current favourite tracks
Our club night Lumo Club is back earlier than usual this month on Friday night in Yamamori Tengu. We’ve got the best damn edit label in Ireland Orange Tree Edits taking over upstairs with Afro and disco from Jimmy Rouge, R.Kitt and Eddy, while Lumo residents myself, Simon Roche and Gavin Elsted hold it downstairs.
Here are our residents’ favourite tracks of the month, 2 highlighted below each and 18 in total on a Spotify Lumo Club chart. Here’s a taste of what we’ll be playing this month
Golden Teacher – Spiritron
To the uninitiated, acid duo and punk/funk band collide to maximum effect with live drums adding fluidity to the groove. To the lazy, the closest thing Scotland has to the glitter-ball hedonism of Chk Chk Chk. Total killer. (Gavin)
JT – Party Girl (JT Edit)
From an early edition of the excellent Hivern Edits series, John Talabot trims the fat and flexes his minimalism muscles on this dancefloor-friendly low-slung electro track from Terrence Tee. (Gavin)
Michael McDonald – Sweet Freedom
A voice reminiscent of RTE 1 daytime radio music in the ’80s, and the commodore of yacht rock, McDonald just rises to the top as the longevity of his other bands – Steely Dan for one – keeps extending. All this funky, brass-peppered track needed was 31 years to age beautifully. (Simon)

Ray Mang – Look Into My Eyes
One of the first tracks played at Lumo, this Balearic nugget from dj/producer/remixer Raj Gupta was a standout from a week of working through the night on a project while listening to nothing but future disco compilations. Appropriate as a sundowner or sunriser. (Simon)
Avalon Emerson – One More Fluorescent Rush
A rush of synth arpeggios to the head from Emerson’s latest release on the Whities label. (Niall)
Fort Romeau – Emu
I can’t get enough of this new tune as you’ll hear from Lumo’s recording last month. Fort Romeau’s output is a constant at Lumo and we absolutely hammered his Peter Gabriel edits in our first year. (Niall)
10:30pm – 3am.
