Portishead’s Geoff Barrow has a new hip-hop project on Stones Throw called Quakers which features an insane 35 members and three main producers. Barrow as Fuzzface is one, 7-Stu-7 (Portishead’s engineer and in-house producer ) and Katalyst (“one of the most respected producers in Australia” apparently) are the others. So far, the names of rappers involved include Stones Throw’s Guilty Simpson, Aloe Blacc, MED, Jonwayne and Dave Dub along with The Pharcyde’s Booty Brown, Dead Prez Prince Po and Phat Kat. Newer lesser known names include Coin Locker Kid, Lyric Jones and Estee Nack.
There are 40+ tracks on the album and it gets a release on March 27th. Here’s the monstrous ‘Fitta Happier’ featuring Radiohead’s ‘The National Anthem’ played by what sounds like a big brass band and featuring Guilty Simpson and MED.
Stones Throw have set up a digital subscription service through Drip.FM too.
