Jimbo Jones returns with 'Modern Day Business Man' featuring Curtisy

The Dublin artist has a new album on the way, the followup to 2021’s The Heat Death of My Hometown.

Jimbo Jones is back with new single ‘Modern-Day Business Man’, featuring Dublin rapper Curtisy.

It’s the follow-up to his 2021 debut album The Heat Death of My Hometown, a concept record built around gentrification, emigration and the erosion of Dublin’s cultural spaces, which featured samples from Emmet Kirwan, Kojaque and Una Mullally and donated its proceeds to CATU.

‘Modern-Day Business Man’ takes a satirical swing at modern commerce, drawing a line between entrepreneurs and the criminal underground, and features a verse from Curtisy to boot. I love the song’s frenetic energy and choral vocals. I’m excited to hear more from chapter two which Jimbo has been working on for the guts of the last five years.

‘Modern-Day Business Man” is out now on Bandcamp.

Modern-Day Business Man lyrics

Split the bag and call it coke.
Cut that shit fine, sell it as bespoke
Vitamins, vitamins, minerals Ritalin,
Partake of the fruit, silver tongue starts slithering,
Drop to the floor, I see you wriggling,
One crisp crunch, and now I got you dribbling,
Moving up and down, is that Mr Kipling?
Let them eat cake, call it asset stripping.

Silver spoon boon, my ascension.
Watch them line up, that’s succession.
Left for dead, but I ain’t no killer,
Keep it economic like ya boy Bell, Stringer,
Keep it theologic, all hail Max Weber,
Landlord at the door shouting stand and deliver!

I’m a liar, I’m a stealer,
By divine right cause I’m a believer,
Modern day business man, yeah that’s the plan,
Buy low sell high, then preach it like I’m chaplain.

I’m a liar, I’m a stealer,
By divine right cause I’m a believer,
Modern day business man, yeah that’s the plan,
Buy low sell high, then preach it like I’m chaplain.

Why you blue for?
I see the window shut but there’s a new door.
I been busy since I busted out the Coombe door.
Comb over the hair, I’m not known to prepare, I’m staying lukewarm.
I want the fruits, want the loot that the suits got,
It’s a stickup, don’t hiccup, no one move.
Had me legs on the poof, had me fingers on the pulse,
You’re tuned into the truth get your groove on.
Get your hands up,
Instagram told me get me bands up,
So I had to man up,
Bally for the cameras,
Robin Hood backwards,
Give me what I asked for,
Baby I’m a bastard.

I’m a liar, I’m a stealer,
By divine right cause I’m a believer,
Modern day business man, yeah that’s the plan,
Buy low sell high, then preach it like I’m chaplain.

I’m a liar, I’m a stealer,
By divine right cause I’m a believer,
Modern day business man, yeah that’s the plan,
Buy low sell high, then preach it like I’m chaplain.

I’m a liar, I’m a stealer,
By divine right cause I’m a believer,
Modern day business man, yeah that’s the plan,
Buy low sell high, then preach it like I’m chaplain.

I’m a liar, I’m a stealer,
By divine right cause I’m a believer.
