I’ll assume you’ve all seen the new video for “Jimmy” by MIA by now. When I first heard the tune I thought it was a mix of the bass from The Gossip’s Standing in the Way of Control and that tune Madonna sampled Abba tune “Hung Up”. I soon found out it was neither of these things as the obvious Bollywood vibe was the source of the cover. Here is the original from a film called “Disco Dancer” featuring an enchanting dancer, a coward called Jimmy and a wall of disco lights.

That guy has hair just like me mate Nishad’s!
Man that movie looks quality. going by the plot synopsis on Wikipedia (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disco_Dancer ), I’d guess that’s probably after
the evil bad guys have electrocuted Jimmy’s mother with 5,000 volts in a
booby-trapped guitar, leaving Jimmy with a deathly phobia of ever playing his
disco guitar again. Don’t worry, I think it all gets resolved in the end…

When the manager (Om Puri) of current Indian disco champion Sam (Karan Razdan) is fed up and looks for some new talent, he happens across Anil who is dance-walking down a street. Rebranded as “Jimmy”, the rising disco star must take the throne from Sam and win the heart of Rita (Kim), P.N. Oberoi’s daughter. All seems to be going well until Oberoi hires men to connect Jimmy’s electric guitar to 5,000 volts of electricity, causing Jimmy’s mother to die in a tragic accident. With his legs broken by Oberoi’s goons and guitar phobia from the incident with his mother, Jimmy must claim first place for Team India at the International Disco Dancing Competition amidst strong competition from Team Africa and Team Paris.
