Kaleidoscope Festival reveals music lineup but the real draw is the family-friendliness of the event

Kaleisoscope family camping festival, which was trailed in the Electric Picnic lineup originally, but for which a lineup was forthcoming, has revealed its names for the event at Russborough Estate, Blessington, Co. Wicklow from 28th to 30th June.

Here is the list so far:

  • Bell X1
  • Tom Odell
  • Wild Youth
  • Hermitage Green
  • The Riptide Movement
  • Brave Giant
  • Delorentos
  • King Kong Company
  • Wyvern Lingo
  • Kila
  • Dublin Gospel Choir
  • Saarloos
  • RuthAnne
  • Thanks Brother
  • Toucan
  • Thumper
  • Flynn
  • Siights
  • Fiona Harte
  • Eve Bell
  • Le Galaxie (DJ set)
  • Laoise
  • Jerry Fish Electric Side Show
  • Billy Scurry

The music is fairly mainstream, pop and rock based and lacking some of the edge present at Electric Picnic overall with the main headliners Bell X1 and Tom Odell leading the list but it could be argued that Kaleidoscope Festival is less about the music and more about the family-orientated details – it’s for young families who want to dip their toes into the festivals and Kaleidoscope is catering itself as the ease-in for that kinds of experience. Just see the list of stuff happening below. Nodding to it’s Electric Picnic roots (and perhaps to encourage families to come to this instead, as Picnic continues to grow in size), EP-associations with Jerry Fish Electric Side Show, Le Galaxie are doing a DJ set and Dublin Gospel Choir are lined up.

Kaleidoscope offers 16 stages “for the sophisticated taste of modern parents, discerning kids and all-knowing teens”: theatre, spoken word, visual art, circus, cinema, comedy and music of course along with family campsites, specific programs for ‘smallies’, for 4-8, 8-12 and 12-16 year olds, together, Children and teen programmes in the walled garden, a fairy fort, baby disco, adventure sports, water sports, morning runs, meditation, Tai Chi and yoga, woodland spa with massage treatments, hot tubs and seaweed baths on a site that measures 200 acres.

For the hassle and carrying-avert, Kaleidoscope also offers Car Camping – where you pull into your campsite and set up your tent on a designated tent pitch beside your car, putting an end to the laborious tasks of carrying gear back and forwards to some remote location. And there will be the usual availability of Boutique camping and Pink Moon camping that we have long come to associate with Electric Picnic.
