What started as a split four-track EP with four bands Oh Boland, Junk Drawer, That Snaake, and Shrug Life sharing a cassette / CD release to coincide with a tour, has grown into a temperature check for Ireland’s DIY community.
Volume 2 featured 18 artists and Volume 3, premiering here today, features 22 independent tracks including songs from Silverbacks, Extravision, Junk Drawer, Post Punk Podge & Fifty Years of Hair (featuring Girl Band’s Dara Kiely and Postcard Versions), Problem Patterns, Robocobra Quartet, The Bonk, Percolator, Careerist, Rising Damp, The Golden Cleric (Shrug Life/Girlfriend/That Snaake), Grave Goods (Girls Names, Pins, September Girls), and more.
Presented together, the songs here paint a varied picture of Ireland’s rock, garage, indie and punk and beyond. From the experimental side of The Bonk, to the post-punk sneers of Grave Goods, the shoegaze of Dublin’s Girlfriend, the garage of Belfast’s Problem Pattern, the cacophonous hard drum and bass of Limerick’s Post Punk Podge and Tralee’s Messyng (“Ireland’s got talent but shit for brains”), the industrial electronics of Rising Damp, more new Sorbet music , Kildare post-punks Silverbacks with a wavey goodbye from Autre Monde to finish.
The double vinyl LP is out on Friday 2nd October 2020 via Bandcamp (also Bandcamp day) and preorders have flown since July so if you want one – now is the time. It will be accompanied by a limited edition zine, featuring written & visual contributions from featured artists – compiled by Beibhinn Delaney. Artwork is by Pipe & Pallet.
